The bulk of a $650,000 bike and walking trail project in Godfrey would be covered by a state grant, if the village is lucky enough to be approved for the funding.  The "Godfrey Trail" would eventually provide a path from Glazebrook Park to the Great River Road.  Phase 1 would begin at Pierce Lane and end around Rocky Fork.

Park & Recreation Director Kimberly Caughran says Phase 2 would take the trail on to LaVista Park.

The Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program grant would cover up to 80% of the cost, leaving Godfrey responsible for about $130,000.  This grant would only cover Phase 1.  She says the village will be seeking additional funding to cover as much of their portion of the cost as possible.
