Godfrey’s Hiway House Motel has been spared, at least for now. The village has ordered the 20 or so residents there to evacuate the building by the end of the week, citing numerous public safety violations. The Salvation Army will help those residents find alternate housing if needed.
Violations listed include padlocked doors, faulty and exposed wiring and inactive, improper and ineffective fire and smoke alarm detection systems. Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick tells The Big Z these issues date back to an inspection that happened about three years ago.
