Last year, the Godfrey Village Board approved a tax levy that was about 10 percent lower than the previous year. The year before that, the levy was reduced by 5 percent. Godfrey's Mayor hopes to continue moving in that direction, and has stated his desire at a recent meeting of the Village Board.
The levy last year came in at just under $600,000. Mayor Mike McCormick (pictured) says he thinks more cuts are possible.
McCormick says he is always in favor of reducing taxes, and anticipates the ability to make up even more of the tax burden through new businesses such as Wal Mart- now that it has been open for about a year- future development of more businesses at that site, a TIF District in the works, and more jobs potentially coming to International Mulch.
