A Godfrey man convicted of aggravated domestic battery last month has been sentenced to eight years in prison for his crime. The enhanced sentence was handed down against 39-year old Scottie Musgraves of the 500 block of Grace Street by Associate Judge Neil Schroeder last Friday. Musgraves conviction of a Class 2 felony carried a maximum penalty of up to seven years but Schroeder handed down the sentence under Class X guidelines because of the defendant’s record.
Musgraves had two previous convictions for more serious felony offenses and was out on parole for a federal drug dealing charge when taken into custody for his most recent offense in January. His previous felony convictions included charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, probation violation, possession of a controlled substance, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He will be required to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence handed down against him Friday.
