Jerseyville is in the process of applying for an Enterprise Zone through the State of Illinois, and Godfrey is coming along for the ride.  The Village of Godfrey has approved a motion to join in the application process for the zone after Mayor Mike McCormick says the mayor of Jerseyville met with Godfrey officials this week to explain why it would be beneficial to both.

Godfrey’s Economic Development and Market Brand Director William Catalano says an Enterprise Zone designation would be a great benefit to the region.

Catalano says the application process is a highly competitive process, with a limited number available.  Applications are due in by the end of the year, with the approval process taking about 9 months.  He says incentives of the zone could include a state sales tax exemption on building materials, a jobs tax credit for each eligible new employee, and a low interest business-financing program.
