Godfrey is now a "Ready to Respond Community." The village recently received word that it would receive that accreditation, after being accepted into a pilot program being rolled out by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. The program recognizes communities that achieve an enhanced level of preparedness.
The village's Mayor Mike McCormick tells The Big Z the criteria are based on many of the same practices the village put into play during the winter flooding.

The Ready to Respond Community program is the latest component of Illinois’ Ready to Respond initiative. To date, only six communities have begun the process towards accreditation and only one (Charleston, Il.) has met the criterion to obtain it. Godfrey will be presented with the award at its October 18th Village Board meeting.
