The Godfrey Village Board has approved an occupancy permit ordinance after months of discussion and few satisfactory suggestions from the Planning & Zoning Commission. The ordinance will not affect existing residents. A change in wording also protects any pending real estate transactions.
Kyle Anderson, Government Affairs Director of the Greater Gateway Association of Realtors, says occupancy ordinances can give an added layer of confidence to a homebuyer. He says his organization usually encourages its buyers to hire their own inspector to ensure quality before a sale.

Mayor Mike McCormick says it will still probably be 2-3 months until everything is in place to enforce the ordinance.
