Trustees in Godfrey have approved a number of ordinances at the final Village Board meeting of 2011. The village is moving forward on the issue of electric aggregation, establishing a school zone speed limit around Evangelical School, extending a no-passing zone on Stamper Lane, and passed the tax levy ordinance.
The new speed limit around Evangelical School affects Cook Street, which some people view as a frontage road along West Delmar, and a portion of Pierce Lane. But it again was the tax levy that generated the most passionate discussion of the night. Trustee Jeff Weber still believes that the $10 or so the average property owner will save on their tax bill could be put to better use.
In the end, it was passed by a 4-3 vote, with Mayor Mike McCormick casting the tie-breaker. Also approved was an ordinance authorizing a public hearing date for consideration of the TIF District Redevelopment Plan and Business District plan. Both meetings will be held at Village Hall on February 7. The first meeting begins at 5:30pm.
