The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois have received a $25,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund, and the organization plans to use the money to support their robotics teams in Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Monroe and St. Clair Counties.  By participating in three different robotics leagues at three different age levels, the Girl Scouts hope to get more girls thinking about careers in the STEM fields.

The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois Director of Programs, Angela Suhre, says this is a growing program within the organization.

The robotics season starts this fall with the LEGO League, in which girls ages 9-14 will build and program a robot using LEGO components.  Eventually, the girls could graduate to building and programming a robot for Botball competition, which is worldwide in scope.
