Congressional candidate Dr. David Gill (pictured) says he is ready to take on whomever Republicans choose. Gill, an emergency room physician from Bloomington, had planned to run against U. S. Rep. Timothy V. Johnson (R-Urbana), who announced on Thursday that he is withdrawing from the race.
“We always viewed this as a very winnable seat,” says Gill, who has run against Johnson in the previous 15th District and is the apparent Democratic primary winner in the new 13th District. “We were taking thousands of votes away from Mr. Johnson every election,” he said. Gill says he suspects Johnson wanted to retire undefeated and that whomever the Republicans appoint to the November ballot will be someone beholden to big donors.
