An event to help the Hope Rescues Animal Shelter to raise money for homeless pets is coming up next week. The third annual Polar Plunge to be held in Alton will be held at the lake at Gordon Moore Park at noon. Inspired by friends plunging into Lake Michigan for the same cause, a pair of Alton natives planned this event a couple of years ago to raise awareness of their cause.
It proved to be so popular, it was brought back again last year. Co-organizer Alison Drieth says the plunge was held at the Alton Marina for the first two years.
People who are not interested in jumping in are welcome to watch the plunge, donate money, and cheer on their friends. Hope Rescues is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter based in Alton, that rescues pets from both abusive homes and shelters that would euthanize these pets if they are not adopted.
