Dear old golden rule days … you know that one.
Parents excited about getting the kids back to school can help make the experience a success for everyone.

“I always encourage parents to aptrcipate in school events, to have a relationship with their child's teachers,” says Cinda Klickna, president of the Illinois Education Association. “There's a great app you can download to see the Common Core standards. I think when people look at them, they realize that they are fine” when it comes to helping with homework.

Klickna says, over a 40-plus year career in the classroom and at the union headquarters, kids largely have not changed. But some things have.
“I grew up here. I went to Springfield High School,” she says. “We did not have poverty in this city like we have today. We have 65 percent poverty among our district schools.”
