The price of gas is up a little over the last month. Jim Anderson reports. The Illinois average is now $3.76 – up from $3.70 a month ago, according to the Triple-A Fuel Gauge Report. But the price was eight cents higher at this time last year, says Triple-A spokesman Beth Mosher. “I have noted before that we should be thankful in some ways for this cold winter that we have had because (it) kept gas prices a little bit lower than we saw last year” by reducing driving and therefore reducing damand for fuel, she said.

Mosher says in the state as a whole, there’s still quite a bit of daylight between the current price and $4. The main reason for the price increase over the last month is refineries performing their scheduled maintenance and preparing to switch to the summer fuel blend.
