Kicking the cigarette habit is a popular New Year resolution, and OSF Saint Anthony's Hospital has a program starting soon that may be able to help you achieve that goal. The hospital is encouraging Riverbend residents to participate in its next Freedom from Smoking course, as a recent study shows tobacco use accounts for at least 30 percent of all cancer deaths and 80 percent of lung cancer deaths.
Respiratory Therapist Vince Gibbs tells The Big Z smokers who quit, regardless of age, live longer than people who continue to smoke. He gives an example of the effects of what just one cigarette can do to your body.
