Free fishing days are here in Illinois. Those under 16 years of age can always fish for free in Illinois, but if you’re older and have an itch to hit a fishing hole this weekend, have at it. “If you’ve never fished or you haven’t had a fishing license in recent years and haven’t given fishing a try lately, we want to encourage you to do it this weekend with a free fishing opportunity,” said Tim Schweitzer, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Except for the license requirement, all state angling rules apply, and fishers must ask permission before fishing on private property. The free fishing weekend runs through Monday night
