Madison County is hosting an "America Recycles Day" recycling collection event this Saturday in Edwardsville. From 9am-3pm, volunteers will accept a variety of items at no cost to Madison County residents. There is an expectation of a large collection day, due to new regulations going into effect in January, so Madison County Sustainability Coordinator Leah Dettmers says volunteers are being enticed to register to help out with the promise of a free computer at the end of the day.
To volunteer, you must be at least 14 years old, and willing to spend the whole day from 8am-4pm at the site. Lunch and concessions will be provided. You must also register with WITS, which is giving away the computers, at 314-382-1650. Examples of what will not be accepted on Saturday includes paint, tires, furniture, mattresses and hazardous waste. Items that will be accepted include all electronics, household batteries, baby items, and reusable dishes and silverware.
