Some landowners in Southern Illinois are suing the state over what they see as a delay in implementing rules to govern the process of fracking. The Wayne County landowners are pursuing a class action lawsuit against Governor Quinn and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
The landowners leased portions of their land to oil and gas developers hoping to share in the fracking industry's profits. Developers wanted to start fracking a few months ago but they haven't received their permits yet, since the state still hasn't approved the rules that regulate the industry. A legislative panel that was supposed to do that last month has delayed the vote until November 6th.
