Charges have been filed against four people in an armed robbery and shooting in Granite City last week. The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office issued the charges against four Granite City residents including 23 year old Lavonce James who is charged with attempted first degree murder for allegedly shooting the victim in the apparent attempted robbery last Friday.
Granite City Police responded to the Economy Inn on Chain of Rocks Road last Friday night to the report of shots fired. Witnesses told police a male victim had been shot during an argument, possibly over a drug deal. The victim, identified as Austin Pearse, was shot once in the neck and later taken to a local hospital for treatment. He remains in serious condition. James is also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Charged with armed robbery are 20-year-old Nicholas Herrera, 20 year old Paige Keils and 18 year old Brooke Ray who were allegedly with James at the scene at the time of the shooting. All four are in custody at the Madison County Jail.
