The Alton Educational Foundation has introduced a new membership program entitled Guardians of Education. The program is designed to expand participation in the AEF mission to individuals, families, corporations, organizations and alumnus within the Riverbend and beyond. Funds generated will go directly to teacher grants within the Alton School District.
The grants are requests teachers put before the Foundation Board for funding for special classroom programs that enhance the educational process. Foundation Vice President Ryan Bemis says the money raised will stay in the district:

Since the group’s founding in 2001, it has given back more than $100,000 in teacher grants and student scholarships. The group will begin a public relations push on the new Guardians of Education program in the weeks ahead, and to learn more or join, go to www.altoned.org mail a donation at any level to the Alton Educational Foundation, PO Box 514 Alton, IL 62002. The minimum requested donation to become a member is $5.00.
