The third act for Mike Lawrence is an enjoyable one.
Retired from a career that included being then-Gov. Jim Edgar's press secretary and, later, running the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University, Lawrence says he wants to be known as a lover of “sensible and sensitive” public policy and good government who is staying active “working with young people who I think, potentially, will be leaders – and tell them that public service is a good thing if you do it the right way.”

During a recent visit to Springfield, Lawrence sais he's glad he's not on the Capitol merry-go-round these days.
“I've been disappointed and disheartened,” Lawrence says. “I was hopeful when Gov. Rauner was elected that we would have a different chemistry in the Capitol. It had not worked well when we had a Democrat in the governor's office and Democrats controlling the legislature,” and this year has been no better.
