Former Illinois Congressman Bobby Schilling (pictured) is running again, trying to re-gain for Republicans the seat he lost to Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-East Moline) in 2012. Schilling announced his candidacy this week. “As a challenger, what we’ll be able to do is we’ll be a little more aggressive getting out there, getting a little bit more solid ground game – we had a really good ground game – but I won’t have to be dealing with being out in Washington, D.C., being a member of Congress and at the same time trying to run a campaign, so we’re gonna work hard, and we’re gonna make sure that people get engaged in the process and make sure that we get our seat back for the people,” Schilling said in Aledo.

Schilling, of Colona, defeated incumbent Democrat Phil Hare in 2010. Schilling estimates that he and Bustos will each raise and spend $2 million on the 2014 race. Former Congressman Robert Dold, a 2010 winner who lost in 2012, is also vying for a comeback against the opponent who defeated him, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield).
