A Wood River woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly embezzled nearly $200,000 from a local realty office. 75 year old Donna J. Sasek is accused of writing checks to employees, signing their names and putting them into her own checking account. The alleged crimes took place over a 3-year period. Sasek resigned from her post as a longtime bookkeeper for Landmark Realty earlier in the summer.

Sasek reportedly worked for Landmark offices in Edwardsville, Bethalto and Godfrey where the alleged crimes occured. The owner of the company, Dennis Burgess, contacted Edwardsville police over the summer after he was notified by his bank of suspicous activity with the business account.  Authorities say Sasek stole more than $180,000 from the company. She is officially charged with one count of theft by deception over $100,000. Her bond was set at $200,000. Sasek left the company last June.
