Many Madison County homeowners who are facing foreclosure have seen relief through a program that is now a little more than a year old. Land of Lincoln Legal Aid in Alton launched the Madison County Foreclosure Mediation Project last summer, and more people are taking advantage of the program because the number of foreclosures continues to rise in Madison County.
Chief Judge Ann Callis says the project has now droppes its financial eligibility requirement, in order to help more people.
When receiving court papers, those being sued will also receive a request for remediation and a financial questionairre. Homeowners will simply have to fill out those documents and submit them back to the court, but program administrators remind not every case can be fixed. This is a project that is available as part of the legal paperwork that comes with the foreclosure process. For more information, call 296-4760.
