There were fewer foreclosures during the month of August compared to the same time last year.  New figures out from RealtyTrac show a 15-percent drop in foreclosure filings last month, however, foreclosure activity jumped one-percent from the previous month.  The rise is due to deferred foreclosure activity in several states.

RealtyTrac notes that one in every 681 U.S. housing units had a foreclosure filing last month.  Illinois had the highest state foreclosure rate in August.  It was a result of a 29-percent jump in overall foreclosure activity from the previous month.  One in every 298 housing units was affected.  That's an increase of 42-percent from last August.
