Officials are working overtime to try and alleviate flood waters surging into homes in part of far southern Illinois. Sewers in Harrisburg are backing up and standing water is beginning to submerge backyards and seep into basements. Residents there were busy trying to salvage some of their belongings from backyard sheds while others rushed to put sandbags around their homes.
The good news is that forecasts predict a dry rest of the week for the area after nearly seven inches of rain fell this past weekend.
