Monday is Veterans Day and local veterans organizations in Alton will hold various tributes to honor the men and women who serve our country. Among those tributes will be the "Avenue of Flags" that runs along Homer Adams Parkway by the Upper Alton Cemetery. This year, over 100 flags will line the roadway, and even more will be placed on the grounds at Alton VFW Post 1308 on Alby Street.
Marine Corps Chaplain Bill Carroll says the flags fly on several holidays throughout the year, and says you can purchase a flag to honor a loved one for $49.50.
