American Heartland Fish Products will still have a presence in Grafton, even though the fish processing plant has shut down operations.  Open for just a short time, the plant created an odor that Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson says disturbed the neighbors and could not be eliminated.

The company has told Thompson they will continue to catch and then ship the Asian Carp to a new facility.  Calibrating the machines to process an entire Asian Carp has been the tricky part, according to Mayor Tom Thompson, who says the ongoing odor, was not anticipated:

Thompson says while the plant wasn’t open long enough to significantly affect the city’s tax base it is a disappointment.  He says while the technology was proven to be effective in processing catfish, this was their first attempt at Asian Carp.
