Now just hours away, plans for First Night Riverbend have been in the works since last year's event. First Night celebrations are alcohol and drug-free New Year's Eve celebrations, and Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey will once again be hosting the event this year. But there are some major changes, including the start and end time.
John Nell, Director of the steering committee, says the event will now start at 3pm and wrap up early in the evening. That, he says, is in response to the wishes of the younger families that have been a large part of their crowd in recent years.

Staples of the event include live music, face painting, magic, and other family-oriented entertainment. That will continue this year, but everything will be held the Hatheway Cultural Center. The fireworks show starts at 7pm, and wraps up the activities.
