The first ever test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert System is coming up this Wednesday. At 1pm, all broadcasters, satellite and digital radio and television, cable television and video providers will relay the alert. Listeners will hear the same audio message that is sent out during a local test, but if you are watching televison, you may notice the test may not indicate that it is only a test, due to limitations in the system.

Although the EAS is frequently used by State and local governments to send weather alerts and other emergencies, there has never been a national activation of the system. The purpose of Wednesday's test is to assess the readiness and effectiveness of the current system and identify incremental improvements that can be made.  Z-1570 will be taking part in the test at 1pm Wednesday November 9.
