Illinois hunters harvested five thousand more deer this year than they did during the first weekend of Firearm Deer Season last year.  Over 72-thousand deer were taken, most of those were in Pike County, with Fulton and Adams counties coming in a close second and third.    The state's Department of Natural Resources has issued more than 334-thousand firearm deer hunting permits so far for the 2012 season.

There are several more opportunities for firearm deer hunting this year, including the second segment of the firearm season from November 29th through December 2nd, and the three-day Muzzleloader-only Deer Season from December 7th through 9th.
