The first weekend of firearm deer hunting season in Illinois is in the books, and thousands of hunters were out in the fields across the state. The Riverbend is close to some of the most densely populated deer territory in the United States. Around here, Pike and Calhoun counties are considered some of the best places to score a kill.
It's not only a family tradition for many, but big business for some as well, with hunters traveling from near and far to try and bag a buck. Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau President Brett Stawar says there are several lodges that cater to hunters.
