A fire at a duplex at 918 E. 6th street in Alton was put out without injury to firefighters. The fire was in the second story. The cause of the fire is still undetermined, although some animal nesting materials were found in the wiring above a closet in the attic. The fire was knocked out in a matter of minutes. While no one was hurt, one Alton firefighter did have a leg cramp and had to cool of in an ambulance before setting out back into the fire. Both Alton and Godfrey fire departments, as well as the ambulance from Alton Memorial Hospital, responded. The 911 call was made just before noon. No one was currently living in the building.
