A fire at a home in rural Jersey County early this morning heavily damaged the structure and also damaged three vehicles. No one was injured. The fire broke out just after midnight at a home in the 26-thousand block of Jersey Landing Road, which is just west of Illinois Route 3.
Firefighters from Godfrey, Brighton and the QEM Fire Protection District were called to the scene, and they battled the fire and the cold throughout the early morning hours. Fire crews also had to deal with shuttling water to the scene as the closest fire hydrant was about a mile away. The fire appeared to start in a garage and then spread to the home.
