A pair of local fire departments will be receiving grants from Illinois American Water. Alton and the Godfrey Fire Protection District will each receive money from Illinois American Water through their 2015 Firefighter Grant Program.  The funding will help provide personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, and training and classroom materials to the departments.

Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold tells The Big Z their $800 award will go toward new technology that could help a victim in cardiac arrest.

The department is fundraising to reach the total cost of the equipment, which is about $13,000.  The $800 grant won by Godfrey will buy a few sections of attack hose.  Illinois American Water awarded over $49,000 to 62 departments across the state.
