A Lucas 2 CPR device is used by rescue squads around the country to replace the rescuer's hands doing compressions to circulate the blood through the body. This allows an extra set of hands to be freed up to do other life-saving tasks when time is of the essence. The Alton Fire Department has begun fundraising to purchase one of these devices in the New Year.
Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold tells The Big Z Lovejoy Elementary School recently raised $612 through a penny-saving competition pitting classrooms against each other, and have been promised more fundraising help from other corners of the community.

About $3900 has been raised so far, including $612 by Lovejoy Elementary School through a penny-saving competition pitting classrooms against each other. The A variety of events will be planned for early 2016. The total cost of a Lucas 2 is $17,500.
