A mother and her child were able to escape a burning home in East Alton on Tuesday morning, but reportedly had to run through a burning hallway to do so. Firefighters responded to the blaze just after 9:30am yesterday at a home in the 100 block of Main Street where the woman and her six year old ran through flames to escape from the structure.
Multiple area departments were called to the fire to aid East Alton crews who arrived first on the scene and within minutes had the fire on the second story of the home knocked down. Damage appeared to be limited to the second floor of the structure and an investigation into a cause is underway. The adult and child were not injured in the escape.
