A rural Godfrey couple is out of their home after a fire burned their apartment and an adjoining storage unit on Monday. The fire broke out around 9am inside the building along Highway 67 in southern Jersey County near Ingham Lane. Dave and Beth Dearing were able to escape the blaze, along with their dogs.
Firefighters from the Brighton-Betsy Ann District, Godfrey and Q.E.M. Fire Protection Districts responded to the blaze. Part of the building also housed Aaron's Lawn Service, and fire officials were still trying to determine the exact cause...although they were leaning toward an electrical issue.
