The Alton Salvation Army is trying to meet its Red Kettle campaign goal of $115,000.  With just a few hours remaining before Christmas, bell ringers are at locations around the Riverbend hoping to stuff the kettles full of donations.  Some local businesses have participated in a donation-match program that has added money to the total based on how much is collected, but the numbers are still falling short of expectations.

Salvation Army Lieutenant Teri Ellison says they received a gold coin earlier this month, as well as a unique gift.

The Salvation Army Children's Day on Z-1570 two weeks ago generated $3,161 in pledges.  If you made a pledge that Tuesday, you can drop it in any Salvation Army red kettle by 2pm today.  While the Red Kettle campaign wraps up today, the donation
