The Village of Godfrey is bringing back special use permits in all zoning classifications. The board gave second and final reading to an ordinance restoring the practice that was done away with during the previous administration. A recent flap over what is allowed in an M-2 General Manufacturing District brought the issue to the surface again, but the hope is that this move will be a fix in most situations.
Trustee Mark Stewart says he has mixed feelings, but voted for the ordinance anyway.
With these changes, the special use permit will no longer be applicable if the business sold to a completely different type of business. A new business would have to come back to the board and re-apply, as each case will be examined individually. The board is also considering capital improvement projects for the coming construction season. A list of possible projects should be brought to the board at the first meeting in May.
