The cost of starting a small business could be going down in Illinois. Illinois lawmakers are moving a bill that would lower the cost of the limited liability filing fee from 500-bucks to 39.
Democratic State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant of Plainfield says the idea is to give people the nudge they need to get started. Illinois’ current LLC filing fee is one of the highest in the nation. Bertino-Tarrant says reducing the fee will encourage small business growth and make the state more competitive on the jobs front. Governor Quinn proposed lowering the fee when he delivered his State of the State Address last month.
