The state Department of Public Health and Environmental Protection Agency are teaming up to reduce the threat of mosquito-borne diseases in Illinois. The agencies will work with local governments to help dispose of used tires from public and abandoned properties, according to IEPA Spokesman Kim Biggs.

IEPA is dividing the state into three zones based on where the risk of West Nile and the Zika Virus is greater. The first area where tires will be collected is southern Illinois.
