The city of Grafton has ferry service again, and the town was quite busy last weekend, according to many accounts. The city purchased the ferry business a couple of years ago, and finally got the dredging work done earlier this month. That was the last hurdle to clear to allow the vessel to return to service.
Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson says it was a busy weekend, with steady traffic Friday afternoon after the ribbon-cutting, and nearly 600 cars and 150 motorcycles on Saturday.
He says the first weekend not only met, but exceeded all expectations. Thompson believes this will help not only the tourist industry, but those that live in Grafton but work in Missouri. Having the ferry open cuts about 30 minutes off of the drive, which comes out in Portage Des Sioux, connecting to Highway 94.
