Female politicians and women’s organizations are supporting Gov. Pat Quinn’s bid for re-election. U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) is among them, encouraging women to vote for Quinn over the Republican ticket, which includes the only woman involved in the governor’s race: Evelyn Sanguinetti, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor.

“Pat Quinn did not…choose a lieutenant governor candidate who is 100 percent anti-choice,” Schakowsky said, “but Bruce Rauner did.”

Despite the views of his running mate, Rauner has insisted he doesn’t have an agenda on social issues. Quinn believes Rauner contradicted that claim with his stance on same-sex marriage.

“My opponent was off in Quincy, Ill., telling people they should veto the bill,” Quinn said. “Well we’re not vetoing things that are important, whether it’s pregnancy discrimination, or making sure that we…have a marriage equality law.”

The “Women for Quinn” organization also includes Lt. Gov. Shiela Simon, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, and the Illinois chapter of the National Organization for Women.
