The mere presence of a federal inquiry is not necessarily a reason to fit Gov. Pat Quinn for an orange jumpsuit, a veteran political watcher says.  On Quinn's watch, we've learned the past several weeks of questionable spending in an anti-crime program and of alleged excessive patronage hiring at IDOT.

“I don't think anyone really believes Pat Quinn is really (imprisoned predecessor) Rod Blagojevich,” said University of Illinois Springfield political science professor Kent Redfield.  "You can overplay it … it's a huge opportunity (and) an easy hit” for detractors – including Republican gubernatorial nominee Bruce Rauner – to make.  “Because of the past corruption” of past governors, Redfield says, “the reaction is, here we go again.”
