The man who fell to his death while working at ConAgra in Alton last August died accidentally, according to a report from the Madison County Coroner's office. 47-year-old Jay Van Buskirk of Edwardsville apparently lost his footing while stepping off a lift on August 4, 2012, falling about 60 to 70 feet. He had just ridden a "man-lift" from the 9th floor to the 5th floor break room when he appeared to have lost his footing and then fell to his death.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, suffering fatal head injuries in the fall. The toxicology testing revealed the presence of cocaine metabolites in his system at the time of death, according to information provided by the coroner's office.
