From live music to monster trucks to agriculture demonstrations to red velvet funnel cakes, you’ll find it at the Illinois State Fair Aug. 10-19. Fair organizers wanting to get their message out to fairgoers put on a preview Thursday at the fairgrounds in Springfield. The fair is the first for Bob Flider as acting director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture – and a record eighth for Amy Bliefnick as fair manager.

Grandstand acts include Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Demi Lovato, and Cheap Trick. Backflipping monster trucks are part of a “red neck weekend” Aug. 18-19. Secretary of state services will be available, as will the state treasurer’s I-Cash program. “Conservation World” is back for the Department of Natural Resources, and the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency will hand out “Abe on a stick” – a fan with a picture of Abraham Lincoln’s face on one side and discount coupons on the other.
