Lottery scams have been around for years, and scammers have recently been using Facebook to try and lure their victims. In one recent case a woman received a message from a friend's account stating they had both won several thousands of dollars in a sweepstakes.
As with other scams, the scammers said all she had to do to collect her winnings was to send them money for taxes, mailing fees, or some other bogus charge. Better Business Bureau investigator Bill Smith tells The Big Z these criminals can be very convincing.

You are advised to never wire money or provide personal information, double check with friends that send you things that may appear too good to be true, and remember that if you did not enter a contest you cannot be a winner.
