Two people were injured in an explosion at Olin Brass in East Alton Tuesday, according to a statement released by the company. One person was airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital following the incident during the noon hour, while the other was treated and released from an Alton hospital.
The statement does not mention a fire, but five local fire departments responded to the scene of the DC Casting Unit Number 5 where the blast took place. The call came in to East Alton authorities at 12:04pm, but East Alton Fire Chief Randy Nelson says the outside fire crews basically were there to support Olin workers:

The incident remains under investigation, and the company says OSHA has already been on the scene. Outside of the incident, operations at the plant continued on Tuesday afternoon. Illinois Route 3 was closed during a portion of the response to the incident.
