A fitness expert hopes people who resolve to lose weight in the New Year stick to their plans. It’s not unusual for gyms to fill up in January, and slowly empty out as the year progresses. Anthony Nizzio, a personal trainer at One on One Fitness in Springfield, hopes that changes – as the country’s population has gotten progressively larger over the past 30 years.

“We didn’t have anywhere close to the level of overweight and obesity that we have now, especially with our children,” he says. “This will be the first generation, and this is a fact, this will be the first generation to where, unfortunately, a lot of parents are going to outlive their children.” Nizzio suggests sticking with an exercise plan. For those older, he recommends getting a doctor’s approval. But he says you’re never too old or too large to start exercising.
