Two events scheduled to take place this weekend in the Riverbend have been cancelled due to the partial shutdown of the federal government. The 25th anniversary ceremony at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, which was scheduled to take place Friday at the Audubon Center and Saturday's Great Rivers Festival at the National Great Rivers Museum in East Alton have been cancelled. The government shutdown has closed all trails and boat ramps at the sanctuary and forced the National Great Rivers Museum to remain closed. Officials estimate the region could lose as much as $80,000 due to the cancellation of these events.
Other events planned this weekend will go on as scheduled, including Flags Over the Mississippi at the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower, the annual Alton Historic House tour and Old Settlers Day in Kampsville.
